Lusaka (AND) Seven major faith-based groups in Zambia say they will not rest until the laws that guarantee the security of children are strengthened.

In a letter to all children in Zambia, the seven member body operating under the Zambia Interfaith Network Group on HIV/AIDS (ZINGO) said they were concerned about the increasing number of sexual abuse cases of children and the general deteriorating living conditions due to the effects of HIV/AIDS.

Handing over the commitment letter to children’s representatives, newly elected ZINGO Board Chairman Reverend Japhet Ndhlovu affirmed the organization’s support for children’s right to life and development.

He said ZINGO would ensure children’s rights are protected. ZINGO comprises the Islamic Council of Zambia, the Bahai Faith in Zambia, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia and the Hindu Association of Zambia. Others include the Independent Churches of Zambia, the Zambia Episcopal Conference and the Council of Churches in Zambia.
