Efforts to make Islam more popular as a religion in Seychelles
have gathered speed. A week of activities was set on its way on
Monday and continued on Tuesday with the opening of an exhibition at
the National Library, held to shed more light on the religion and
what it hopes to achieve.
The
exhibits, mainly posters, have been designed to answer a series of
questions about Islam. These include pieces about Allah, as well as
others on the Qur’an, the religion’s book of worship.
Issues
such as how Islam guarantees human rights and elevates the status of
women are also tackled, and the exhibition is open until tomorrow.

Besides that, a series of talks by a lecturer in Islamic studies, Dr
Jabal Buaben from the University of Birmingham in the UK, has been
planned for the rest of the week.
Yesterday
evening he led a symposium on the Crisis of the Modern Man.
A
similar event to describe the place of Muhammad in world history
will take place at the National Theatre today, followed by a talk
Towards a Healthy Islamic Social Order scheduled for tomorrow at the
Al-Nahayan mosque in Victoria.
Speaking
to Nation, Imam A. Rahman said he viewed the activities this week as
the religion coming out of its shell. He said that afterwards
Muslims here will have to work to protect the shell as it is still
in a fragile state.
