About TIA

The Tackveeyatul Islamic Association of Trinidad and Tobago Inc. (commonly referred to as the T.I.A.) was founded in 1926 and incorporated by Act of Legislature in 1931.

It was the first National Muslim Organisation to be founded in the country and also the first to be granted State-aid for establishing schools. It operates five State-aided Primary schools.

It's activities include the following:

1. administering five State-aided elementary schools,

2. publishing a bi-monthly paper for children entitled "With Children in Mind",

3. the publication of books,

4. the publication annually of the "Trinidad and Tobago Muslim Almanac",

5. hosting a regular weekly radio programme.

The governing authority of the Association is its General Council which must meet at least once a year (the Annual General Meeting).

The management of the Association is carried out by the Central Executive Committee which comprises the Officers and six other members. All are elected by the General Council at the Association’s Annual General Meeting.
